Donation of the “Weathernews Sphere” to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO)

~ Deepening Cooperation with the WMO to Accelerate International Disaster Prevention Support ~

Weathernews Inc. donated the “Weathernews Sphere,” a state-of-the-art globe that displays a wide range of Earth observations and simulations, to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), and held a joint unveiling ceremony at the WMO headquarters in Geneva.
The “Weathernews Sphere” is the successor to the “WITH Globe,” which was first donated in 2011 and had been on display in the WMO’s entrance hall for many years. Centered on the theme of “measuring the Earth’s temperature from 10 minutes ago,” it displays the company’s global weather data, observational data such as satellite imagery and sea surface temperatures, and climate change simulations, and features touch-screen functionality for operation.
WMO Secretary-General, Professor Celeste Saulo expressed her gratitude, stating, “We at the WMO are proud of our partnership with WNI. There is no single institution, company, or organization in the world capable of addressing meteorological social issues on its own, and I believe this Sphere serves as a daily reminder that advancements in science and technology, along with public-private collaboration, should ultimately benefit people.”
WNI supports the United Nations’ “Early Warnings for All (EW4ALL)” initiative and strives daily to support all citizens, industries, and government agencies worldwide facing weather-related risks through weather and climate information services that leverage cutting-edge technology and comprehensive databases. Furthermore, we consider it essential to build relationships of trust with international organizations, including the WMO, and with national governments in order to put this into practice.
Moving forward, WNI pledges to maintain a lasting cooperative relationship with the WMO and will continue to establish a defined role for private-sector meteorological companies within the international community and to create new value in the field of meteorological disaster prevention.
