For the third consecutive year, Weathernews participated in the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change took place in Baku, Azerbaijan from November 11 to November 22, 2024.
On November 16, we made a presentation on our climate change services at an event on early warning systems (EWS)* organized by the Ministry of the Environment at the Japan Pavilion. During the presentation, we introduced successful examples of climate change adaptation, especially in the manufacturing industry in Southeast Asia, as well as the latest technologies for dealing with heat waves and forest fires. We believe that by combining these weather-related technologies with climate risk analysis, it is possible to limit the risk of damage to corporate locations and assets and to reduce financial risk and risk control costs.
At the panel discussion, representatives from the governments of Indonesia and Malaysia, in addition to representatives from the Japanese government and domestic and foreign companies, joined in to discuss public-private partnerships for early warning systems. Daisuke Abe, Executive Officer in charge of Service Operation and Risk Management at Weathernews, took the stage to emphasize the importance of disclosing observational data held by government agencies to the private sector and the appropriate division of roles between the public and private sectors in order to promote adaptation measures.
Our company's early warning efforts during the forest fires in the Balkans were also introduced at other pavilion events.
Weathernews will continue its efforts in both “adaptation” and “mitigation” of climate change by working in cooperation and collaboration with related governments and companies in Japan and overseas to achieve the goals set by the world.
