Weathernews Inc.(Chiba, Japan; CEO: Chihito Kusabiraki) sponsored a talk show, "The Role of Meteorological and Hydrological Services in Sustainable Development," as a preliminary event ahead of the 50th Session of the ESCAP/WMO Typhoon Committee (hereinafter referred to as TC50), held from February 28th to March 3rd in the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi. In this talk show, the Secretary-General of WMO, the Vice President, Vietnam Panel on Climate Change (VPCC), and the Vice Administrator, Vietnam Meteorological Hydrological Administration led discussions on the role of meteorological and hydrological services in disaster prevention and climate change countermeasures, support for production, and economic and social development in the Asia region. In addition, while the TC50 was being held, we introduced the work we are doing together with our partner, Vietnam HYMETECH (Centre for Application of Hydrometeorological Technology), on reducing disasters and economic loss due to extreme weather and climate change. We were pleased to receive feedback acknowledging the significance of this work as an example of public-private partnership.
Weathernews aims to continue to contribute to disaster mitigation by improving the accuracy of typhoon and weather information in Asia, while deploying weather services that take into account the means of information communication.
